A Typical MTC Lunch

After a Bad Spanish Lesson!
Thanks everyone for the emails. We haven't been able to get any letters this week. So emails are so wonderful. Also, if anyone does send a dear elder, I would love if you included the address so I could reply.
Also I really need more yoga poses/sequences/routines, I'm running out. I've been doing it faithfully though because my companion likes to do it, and I get to play yoga instructor.
Aaron's pics are soooo cute! I love them!
Hmm, highlights:
-If we sing "Jesús es mi luz" one more time, I might die.
-GRANDMA SWAN!!! You are an angel. My companions would like to thank you. We have already used basically everything you've packed, and a bunch of the medicines, pliers, papers, etc. Everything has been useful. And the hottest items at this CCM right now are my towels with "Hermana Peck" embroidered on them. They are just too cool. It's now the joke at the CCM that if you need something, Hna Peck has it, because her grandma got it for her. :)
-Tell everyone thinking about going on a mission, Don't get new scriptures!! I'm so glad I am using my old marked-up ones.
-So, we went to the store this week, (our first time beyond the fence of this place) and they have a lot of stuff, but anything imported is more expensive. But I should be able to survive. We only get to go once while we're here. Also on that adventure I learned that this mission will probably be better served if I wear a paper bag over my head. The men here, we call "fresco". They're certainly not afraid to tell you that they think you're beautiful. Even if you happen to be in a car in the middle of traffic in Santo Domingo. Yes, they walk up to your window to sell stuff and/or try to flirt. Yikes. It happened way too frequently, along with lots of staring, cat-calls, and waves. I probably will not volunteer to sit in the window seat anymore. This is going to be interesting.
-I think I've moved backwards in terms of spanish. But it's entirely my fault because I prayed that the Lord would keep me humble, and He certainly does. We've taught lessons every day this week. We also go talk to members that are visiting the temple on the weekends. I can't understand them, but I can usually get my point across. Tomorrow we're going to the university here to do some real live contacting. Yikes.
-Oh, this should have been first. Biggest news of the week is I am now able to do the Finger Snap. The one that every missionary who goes to a Latin country can do. Yes. After days of trying. I have arrived. Forget Spanish, that's all you really need to know down here.
-Funny story about one of my companions. She is so Christlike and basically perfect and therefore sometimes makes me crazy (especially when the other companion drives me up the wall and she gives me this angelic look saying "70x7, Hermana, what would Jesus do?") But, once this week I was memorizing the first vision in spanish and it was coming a lot quicker to me. I could tell she was getting frustrated with herself and me. After a while of this, she leans over, and on one of my papers she wrote, "Jesus loves you! :)" And I knew that it was because she had to remind herself of that fact because she wasn't feeling like loving me. That is the closest she will ever get to losing her temper. I have a lot to learn from her, because I tend to be a little more passive-aggressive than that when I get annoyed. :)
-We actually had pizza! And it was almost like American kind!
-The Haitian district headed out early Tuesday, and I was so so sad. They were my best friends outside of my district here. They are so Christlike and such good examples and let me play basketball with them. They have the best, strongest testimonies. They are going to do amazing amazing things in Haiti.
-We go to the temple on Thursday mornings. The temple here is beautiful. Everything is beautiful here (which means, Grandma, that I'm not having culture shock yet :) ) It's the perfect temperature and humidity right now. We get an ocean breeze that makes all the palm trees wave. There are hibiscus and all sorts of flowers everywhere. The sky is always bright blue with big fluffy clouds. It hasn't rained yet, which everyone says is unusual, but apparently means we'll have a nice summer. Sounds good to me!
Thanks everyone for the emails, both grandmas, dad, Loren, Kristen, and the family! I love to get them so much!
Good job Chris with polo! That's how we do it! And glad to hear about work!
Loren, today I listened to all of your compositions on the ipod and LOVED them. They were so fun to hear and I could pretend I was listening to you play downstairs. I'm so glad they were on there.
I love you all so much. There is such a good spirit here. I love the work that I'm able to do and being able to see the Lord's hand in each and every day of my life. This is the best place to be.
Love,
Hermana Sarah Peck
