Playing tennis at The Olympic Center - (Sarah and Hermana Theobald)
"Happy 6 months to me!"
At times, it's good to remember that missionary work lasts a lot longer than the days we count numbers for, the weeks that make up a transfer, and the months in a year and a half. We're only here for a tiny part of the big picture that makes up the eternal story of missionary work, and we are sometimes blessed to see big progress of a person or an area for the short time that we're there, but for the most part, we are just tiny blips in the lives here. In and out and home before we can see the real change.
Yesterday we had a first lesson with a reference from a member. She came to church for the first time yesterday and loved it. She said she wants to go to this church every Sunday for the rest of her life and get baptized. (We'll see what actually happens). But the thing that impressed me the most was how she talked about some Elders that came over almost every day teaching her years and years ago. She remembers their names and where they're from. They taught her and taught her and she never came to church. I'm sure they eventually had to drop her. But she shared with us how the things that they had taught her changed the way she thought about others, the way she treated them, and the way she viewed her relationship with God. She's been prepared for this moment in time, when once again the missionaries have entered her life.
This afternoon I'm going to play tennis with Emmanuel, a 12 year old investigator who we have the hardest time teaching because he's always at the courts playing tennis. Our solution: tennis first, lesson after.
Mangoes are going out of season. I don't know what on earth I'm going to do.
My 6th month day was good. I bought myself a 5 dollar shirt and wrapped it up and gave it to myself, along with Captain Crunch. And Hna Frye surprised me with a homemade chocolate cake!
Other noteworthy news, one of the members bought us milkshakes, real American ones, so that we could meet his reference that he was out to lunch with. And then he came to church yesterday, so I guess something worked!
We get to go to the temple on Friday! Well, because it's in my area, I go there like every other day because a lot of members live close. But we don't ever get to go in the fence. But we will on Friday!
Hope everyone has a great week going back to school! I can't believe it's already that time.
Love, Sarah (Hna Peck)
