No we did not stay up. That would have been crazy. I heard of a lot of other Elders who did but no, I did not. We went to bed just like normal. Not much actually happened holiday wise for New Year's.
We've been getting some lovely talks in church about new years and setting ones goals straight for the year. Also, some very good talks about faith and blessings of church, which are perfect when we have a new prospective member visiting. We have had a few over recently which is absolutely wonderful. We have been making sure to keep up with our Facebook posts as well as we continue to hear about the blessings of continuing to flood the earth with the gospel.
Along with that I have finally started to attend meetings concerning my calling as the district family history specialist. There was a confusing time where I wasn't told that I was the family history specialist but everything has been straightened out and I attended my first meeting with specialists all over the mission last night. I'm hoping that I can become fluent enough in working the application to really teach someone looking for their family. Other than that not much has happened. We continue to have member lessons, and we occasionally get referrals but they have all ended up not wanting to talk to us. In my free time I have been reading Saints, which tells of the struggles of the early saints in keeping the fulness of the gospel alive on the earth.
They had many incredible trials, but many miracles occurred. I was thinking about how I had read about the time Joseph and others saw the spirit of Elijah in the temple, and family history was kind of established as a necessary work, and how that exact same topic was discussed in my family history meeting. Truly an important work for our day, another kind of missionary work. I hope we all are staying healthy and also helping others as the new year starts moving. I hope that it continues to be full of family for all of us as well. Best wishes, Elder Peck.
