Que Lo Que Tranquila

Hermana Erickson did my hair.

Wander's 14th birthday.  He was a bit "weirded out" by the brownie.

Now that I write a letter in English, maybe you guys can have it also. This is to my president:

Thank you so much for the letter. AT zone meeting they talked a lot about opening our mouths, finding people in every circumstance, especially on the gua guas. When I first heard that I was pretty scared because I´m kind of shy when there´s a group of people, but I´m going to give it a shot! It will help me a lot.

We had conferencia de rama yesterday and it went really well. Lots of less active members and investigators came. We have been working a lot with the less actives.

We did a training this week for the relief society on how to teach lessons effectively (not just reading the manual) so we hope to see some good progress there.

We had some investigators come to church. One, Ondina, a woman of about 50, is new. We taught her the plan of salvation that afternoon and she loved it so much. We put a date with her for July 19th and she´s very excited. We just need to help her quit smoking.

Well, what a crazy week. Ups, downs, (what´s new) getting super excited about the work and super discouraged. The good news is my companion is really good at pep talks, so we help each other a lot.

Also, all week I´ve wanted to dip dye my hair in Koolaid. Really badly. I talked myself in and out of it all week, but finally decided against it, being a sister missionary and all. Probably a good decision. Also since I don´t actually know how to do it.....

This week we also went most of the week without water. The dishes stacked up, laundry was out of the question, and mostly the bathrooms smelled really really bad. I don´t know if it´s crossed your mind that if you don´t have running water you can´t flush toilets. We always have to bucket flush them. Also, to clear that up, we never have running water, but sometimes water comes through a hose in the morning and we fill up our buckets. If it doesn´t come the buckets are empty. And we all stink. But it´s all part of the grand adventure. I now know how to survive if I ever have to live like a pioneer. someday.

So let me tell you about Ondina. I´m not sure I´ll be able to adequately portray her. She´s really scary. Like intimidating. She lives all alone and feels alone. We´ve taught her for a few weeks now, but not really seriously. She refuses to pray with us there, she can´t read unless it´s really big, and her yard is covered in cigarrette butts. We weren´t even sure she wanted us to come, but she got annoyed if we ever missed, so we kept going. She said she´d come as long as she could wear pants because as she repeated over and over. and over. and again. She´s never put on a skirt and she never will. We kept telling her that was fine, but she brought it up all the time. She ended up coming to church--in pants, of course--and i prayed no one would say anything. Nobody did. She had a great time. Yesterday afternoon we taught the plan of salvation and she was eating it up. She was like ¨why have you come over before and never told me all these beautiful things?¨ I was thinking, well, I thought that the restoration and the book of Mormon were beautiful....
Anyway, short on time, so I´ll cut to the chase. she basically asked for a baptismal date, and now she has one for July 19. Pray for her. I´m so scared for when we tell her she has to stop smoking and drinking coffee. She maybe will yell at us. But I love her. The spirit was so strong.

So the work keeps rolling forward. Forward steps, backward slides, but always onward. We´re working a ton with less actives. And a lot of the recent converts are already less active, so we´re working a lot on retention. We feel like it´s a worthwhile focus for the time being.

I love the plan of salvation. It´s so perfect. I´ve been realizing that more and more. Oh! And we got the conference liahonas FINALLY!! Yay! I read Elder Scott´s yesterday and loved it.

Anyway, love you all, thanks for all the pics! I´m so glad to hear what you all are doing.

Bye,
Sarah
