Maddy Gets Her Mission Call!

(Maddy): I actually wasn't planning on serving a mission. I wanted to continue going to school at USU. But as I prayed to know whether I should go on one or not, I didn't feel like I was receiving an answer. So, I thought I would take a step one way or the other and see what happened. Well, before I knew it, everything worked out perfectly for me to go, and my papers were in within two months.
I got my call on December 15th, which was during my first finals week. I was extremely nervous, but also ready to know where I would be serving for 18 months. I opened it after work that day, everyone meeting up at the office.
When I read it and found out I was going to Hong Kong, Cantonese speaking, I was so excited! I wanted to go foreign and I figured that my odds of going to an Asian country were pretty good since I took Mandarin Chinese in high school, then again in my first semester of college. I love Chinese, and I was even able to go to China over this last summer on a tour that went to Beijing, Xi'an, and Shanghai. I loved every second of it. But the funniest thing is that when I started taking Chinese, I had hoped that China would open up to missionaries before I left, then realized that probably wasn't going to happen. Then, miraculously, I got called to China.

I was even more excited that I was going to the MTC on March 1st because a girl in my Chinese class at USU was going to the exact same mission, leaving the same day! We'd become good friends over the semester, but we never thought we would get called to the exact same mission! We'll be in the MTC together, and probably go to Hong Kong together. I couldn't have asked for anything better. I'm so grateful and excited to be able to go to China on my mission, the one place I thought was impossible.
