Ok, I've got one experience I've got to share. About 2 weeks ago, we started hitting Tagalog pretty hard. One day, I spoke almost all Tagalog for the first time all day. It got easier and easier as the day went by and by the time we returned to the residence hall, I was getting into it. I made myself think in Tagalog. And while I was lying in bed, grammar principles spun around in my head. It took a long time for me to fall asleep, but the next thing I remember was being awaken by my companion kicking the bottom of my bed and saying --"Elder Peck! Are you awake? You're talking to me!"
It startled me a lot -- like it used to when I was playing the piano and someone knocked on the door. Before I realized what was going on I almost shouted, "Alam ko!" (I know). It was quiet for a minute, and then realizing what was going on I whispered "Pasenoya- hindi lzo alam no nagsalita ako sa iyo." (Sorry, I didn't know that I spoke to you)
In the morning, Elder Thorn and Greenlaw said that they'd been awaken at about 2 o'clock in the morning by me speaking random words in Tagalog loudly --in my sleep. It was a little humorous to me, because a few days before, on March 13, I'd attended a meeting where Brother Anderson in the Branch Presidency told us to work and strive all day long until we retired to bed so that our minds would continue to work on problems throughout the night. Maybe I'm learning Tagalog in my sleep now!
I know the Lord is certainly helping me -- quickening my mind and helping me remember things I've learned in class. And the Spirit does incredible things with the language during teaching appointments. I can't wait to send more experiences -- there are so many chances to learn here. I love you all--
Elder Loren Peck
