This morning I had a strange realization. There I was sweeping water off of the tile floor of my cement house with a broom. I was wearing dominican leggings like all the girls my age here have, and my hair was up in a tubi. All natural guava juice we'd made was sitting in the fridge. The sudden realization was that I'm not normal anymore. I'm a far cry from a real Dominican, but I'm not American anymore either. It's strange not quite knowing what you are.
In other news, this whole transfer I've been the pianist for the Sabana Yegua branch. It's...exciting. Kind of like Loren playing the organ but a lot worse on my part. Mostly I just play the right hand, with a handful of notes with the left. The intro before they start singing is always the worst. I always mess it up and just end up looking at Hna Caguimbal, the chorister, to just start them singing. Then, they often sing a lot different than the actually written rhythm (adding fermatas and ritardandos where they don't go, etc) so that is an added challenge. But they're kind to put up with me. Oh wait, they don't have another option. :)
Letter to President,
We found a couple new people to teach this week. One is a family in which the mom likes to listen to us, and the dad is very Evangelical. But they're nice and he at least will listen to us. Hopefully she can make it to church this next week. We found a very intelligent and educated man. He committed to read the Book of Mormon and pray, but says that he probably won't ever really be able to go to church because he's always traveling. But if he really reads and prays with a little bit of faith, hopefully he'll have a desire to change his lifestyle.
This transfer has taught me a lot about faith. I still have a lot to learn. It requires a kind of confidence in the Lord that allows you to work miracles, not just wait for them to happen. I've changed my prayers from asking for a miracle, to asking for the strength and faith to make miracles happen.
The branch will be doubling the number of sealed families on August 16 when they go to the temple. 2 couples are going to be sealed. So that's great news.
Thanks for everything! And tell Hermana Nuckols that the new frying pan is super great!!
