Now before you get too excited, I know it's a huge shock, yes, I am in fact going to Hong Kong. I was a little worried, but yes, we did get our flight plans! Everyone except for Elder Vowels. We got really worried about that. He will find out today when he goes to the travel office. We're all praying for him. We don't want him to fly alone. It's like they're breaking our little district family apart, so we're all a little stressed about that, not to mention he hasn't slept well over the weekend not knowing what would happen. Poor guy. I guess we'll see today. But yeah, we leave at 2:30 next Monday morning, so I won't be able to email that day, but we fly to San Fransisco!!! We have a 6 hour layover there. Then we fly to Hong Kong from there and get there at about 6:30 ish Hong Kong time. We're all pretty nervous.
I don't have a ton of time, plus I'm practicing for the hour that we have in Hong Kong, so I'll try to include the most important things:
It's been a little colder and rainy here. I should be grateful since Hong Kong will be hot and humid. And rainy.
We got our full names, which we should have gotten a while ago, but better late than never!
We finally gave in and smelled the chocolate, cream soda, whatever-you-want-to-call-it- tree. It does smell pretty good. Like sap or something. Chocolate if you stretch it. It wasn't quite what I thought after watching nine weeks worth of missionaries smelling it right outside our window, but it was ok. Now I can say I did it right?
Pictures: Li Jimuih, our teacher, made those slippers out of the paper towels from the bathroom. I was so impressed! She's so amazing!!
Lots of temple pictures as well.
Oh, and we wrote out the geneology of the Book of Mormon down until Alma the Younger and the sons of Mosiah. It was so dang cool!
Also, my challenge to all of you: If you haven't ever sat down and read the Book of Mormon keeping the geneology in mind, do it. Enos's uncle was Nephi and his grandpa was Lehi? What?! Also, Jarom's Gruncle is Nephi. Anyway, that was pretty sweet. It puts things way into perspective. And how did I not notice that between Amaleki and King Benjamin, Mormon pokes his head into the chapters and spoils the entire book?! I've realized that I really did not understand the Book of Mormon before. So I'd encourage you all to read it and read it to understand the story. It really is like a really cool movie! Put yourself in their shoes!
And we taught about classifiers, so that was our lesson.
Funny story of the week, I was showering and Sister Stafford comes into the bathroom calling my name and asking if I had my key with me. Conversation went something like this. "No, why?" "Burtenshaw, do you have yours?" "No" "We're locked out!" So, that's how that night went. So we had to go to the information desk in 1M. Sister Rees had to let us borrow some clothes so we could go outside, so I ended up in my PJ top and her shorts and coat and my flip flops. I'm including a lovely picture. We looked so great. It was so funny Sister Stafford was crying and I couldn't stop laughing and the guy at the desk was not amused. Oh well. We made it back.
Thanks all of you for your letters and notes! I love hearing how everything is going! It was a little hard yesterday with being stressed about going to Hong Kong and also it being the 23rd. But this week was actually pretty good. Sorry, I only wrote about the less awesome things! It's been a very busy week though, and all our teachers are pressuring us a lot to get everything done at once. It's a little stressful. Makes me feel like our first week again. That and we're all sad that it's only a week left together. All of the Mandarin district has it worse though since they're splitting up and we're still all going together.
Wow, sorry, I said I would stop being negative. No, this week has been so good and I've been so blessed to be able to learn so much. Our investigators have been doing so well. Nikki said she'd get baptized, and Lam Jimuih is prepping to go to the temple. That and her daughter, Kei Jing took a lesson and she seems interested. I'm sad to be leaving them, but at the same time, it will be so amazing to go and teach "real" investigators in Hong Kong.
Wish I had more time to write, but just want you all to know that I love you all so much! I feel your prayers and I pray for all of you constantly. I really hope this week and next week go well. I'm pretty nervous, but hopefully all will work out. I'll send an email probably Saturday, but it may not be very long. We'll only have three hours.
Thanks for all your support and love! You're all amazing! Have an amazing week!!!
All my love,
Sister Peck
Paak Jimuih
