Happy Birthday to Brendan!

Hello Dearest Family!!

So this week has been pretty uneventful.

(Note: Maddy is referring here to her brother who passed away last July.  His birthday is July 2nd and we celebrated it with fireworks -- Brendan's favorite -- and Wendy's frosties)
I had a bit of a tender moment when I saw that picture of Brendan's grave with the house in the background. I have to admit it makes me pretty homesick. Last night was a little hard for me, but the day was busy enough that it was alright. I had pancakes to celebrate and we'll probably get some ice cream to celebrate a little today.

This week we had a few lessons with Yuen Jimuih just reading the BOM with her and Vilian. It's going pretty well. She also took us to Pizza Hut, which is insanely expensive. I felt bad. She's going to Mainland next week for a little while to be with her husband, so hopefully the break will be good for her. We also had language study with Kathy.

Also, last week we went to Stanley Market for P-day!! So much fun!! But also not good on my wallet... those are those pictures with the huge pizza slice

and the pretty picture of the ocean and Sister Thomson and Sister Fransen. So much fun!

I got a cute new dress that I'm wearing today, and a Bruce Lee shirt, so now our apartment has matching shirts, and some Aladdin pants!! Ok, so maybe I didn't need them, but they are sooooooooo comfy!!!! I already love them so much. Today we're going to Big Buddha and I'm so excited!! We'll be taking a cable car. (just like in Avatar The Boiling Rock!!! Except minus the prison...) So those pictures will come next week.
We also ran into Joyce in the MTR station! I assume you got the picture? She's so amazing! I love running into her!

So, I thought i'd spend a little time going over some things that I do since I've gotten a lot of questions as to what we actually do. ;) So I live on Hong Kong Island in Kennedy Town. (So to get to Kowloon Tong where the temple is, we take the MTR underwater. Pretty cool.) So a typical day is wake up, go outside to the park near  our apartment building and exercise. Or sit and watch the pigeons. Then we have studies and depending on the day, we'll usually try to have something with our members, so like language study or role plays or a dinner. They're all so nice! And we usually try to schedule a potential or two.

So we'll do calls and records, or we'll go finding. Since we can't knock on doors, (the apartments have security and all the doors have gates in front of them anyway. Sooooo, Illegal.)

We go finding on the streets, or in parks, or riding the MTR, minibuses, or the ding dings (the cute little trolleys). So lots and lots of options. So that's what we do instead of knocking doors. Luckily, you don't have to knock doors to find people, they're literally EVERYWHERE! Yup, so it's really fun.

We've had some pretty good finding experiences, but most of the success comes from member referrals. We only have church on Sunday, but there is an international ward that has church every day of the week. Hope that answers most of the questions. ;) It's a pretty interesting mission for sure.

Also, still really bad at cooking mom... there are so many options for food. We eat quite a bit of McDonalds, and there are AMAZING bakeries at least every block or so. They are so so good. And cheap. and little fruit street markets. And there are frozen dumplings at the store. So lots of PB&J sandwiches and dumplings and fruit. And oatmeal and rice.

Sorry, not much this week! Have such an amazing week this week Y'all! I love you all so so so much! Happy Birthday to Brendan as well! I thought a lot about him and all of you this week. I know Heavenly Father is looking out for you all. All my love!

Sister Peck
